Writing Forwardable Emails
How to write the perfect blurb for your connector.
The Anatomy of a Forwardable Blurb
A forwardable email must be entirely self-contained. The connector should only have to click "Forward," add a one-sentence endorsement, and hit send. If they have to edit your email to remove context or fix formatting, you have failed.
The 4-Part Structure
- The Context: Who are you and why are you relevant right now? (1 sentence max).
- The Ask: What specifically do you want from the target? (1 sentence).
- The Value Prop: Why is this worth *their* time? (2 bullet points).
- The Out: Explicitly give them permission to say no without guilt.
Hey Sarah, looking at the below from Alex regarding their new APIālet me know if you're open to chatting with them.
Example (The Blurb):
Hi David, thanks for offering to connect me with Sarah. I've been following her recent work on B2B routing architecture. I'm looking to get feedback on a new API we're building that specifically addresses the latency issues she mentioned in her last blog post. No worries at all if she's heads down right now.
Common Mistakes
- Including calendar links in the initial ask (presumptuous).
- Writing a wall of text (TL;DR).
- Using jargon or buzzwords instead of concrete numbers.
FAQ
Can I attach a pitch deck? No. Send a link to a secure data room or a DocSend link. Attachments trigger spam filters and clutter inboxes.
